BarCamp Nashville is an open-source gathering of technology enthusiasts who come together for one weekend to share what they know and learn what they don’t. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees.
Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.
THEN Michael John (aka MJ) is an award-winning, 20 year veteran of music creation, advertising and multimedia. At the age of 17, he was personally asked by controversial figure, Pat Robertson, to compose and produce the main theme package for his nationally syndicated TV show, “The 700 Club”. After a successful submission, Nelson was subsequently engaged as the full-time, staff music director/composer for CBN, The 700 Club and the upstart cable network, The Family Channel. After just a couple of years of writing and producing music for a myriad of themes, commercials, background scores and performing behind the live on-air guests, he embarked on his own path working under the company name, Epic Soul Music Group, creating music for clients like Pepsi, NBC and Disney.

In recent years, Michael’s lifelong passion of creative technology has led him into founding MJ Creative Solutions where his small team of contractors produce Web 2.0 internet and mobile applications. His rare combination of technology, creativity and business skills, coupled with an eye for social and technology trends, has earned him the respect of fellow entrepreneurs who call on him for advice, strategy and communications help between creative types, business executives and computer programmers. Through these experiences he has founded a website and mobile content venture called, FanTones and has secured international partners and alliances.

QUIRKY FACTS
When The Family Channel was just getting started, Michael wrote nearly all of their promo and spot music for the network. When it started to grow, there was a VERY important sales presentation and he was asked to write music with lyrics for a 3 minute sales “music video”. The initial meeting in Chicago was not going well and towards the end of the day, the director put in the video and shortly there-after closed the deal. Michael was personally called and thanked by the Senior Vice-President. Today, The Family Channel is owned by Disney/ABC.
NBC used music for the “Heroes Season I DVD” release.
Was the principal mix engineer for the Vanderbilt band “Soul Incision” which is made up of the CEO, Chief Medical Officer/Chief of Staff, executive directors and a vice-chancellor.NBC’s “Law & Order” has used Epic Soul music in more than one season finale promo.
The hit show, NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” has also used music for their final show weeks.
String arranger/orchestrator on 2 songs for Nick Lachey’s latest album “What’s Left Of Me”.
MTV used tracks for “Pimp My Ride”. Now MJ’s kids think he’s truly good.
FOX’s “America Idol” used Michael’s music in a season finale week of promos. We don’t remember which one. :-(
For 2 years, taught music and choir at a private school to 7th through 12th graders for 1 hour a day.
Disney has used Michael’s music in the main ad campaigns of the world premiere DVD releases of Cinderella, Akeelah & The Bee, The Little Mermaid and Heidi. Music was used in multiple edits.
Contracted as arranger, orchestrator, keyboard player and band music director for the Virginia Symphony’s “Salute To Black Gospel Music” concert which included a 300 voice choir, 50 piece orchestra and a full rhythm section.
Founding member in charge of sound and tech for the Nashville based, writer’s-in-the-round series, “Puckett’s After-Hours”. He met many of Nashville’s leading singer-songwriters.
