Okay, so I was talking to Chris Lee while setting up the network today and we started talking about customers. The customers that have the best of intentions to be fiscally responsible, but ultimately fall short of that goal by cutting corners. If you have worked in IT, you have had at least one of these customers…

Want To Speak At BarCamp? You Can! And Just Where Do I Enter?

Alison Groves's picture

In tradition of BarCamp, we’ve set aside an entire room that is empty for the entire day for folks to sign up day of and speak. ThisCamp will be available for speaker signup in 25 minute increments starting at 9:15 until the last session at 3:15. When you arrive at the event, come all the way down to the end of the hall to the cafe area where you can sign up on a card and stick your session on the board at your preferred time. Want to talk about something that isn’t yet being covered on the schedule? This would be the perfect opportunity for you to do so.

Also, one final note before the event happens tomorrow. Don’t come in the Sommet Center through the normal doors! You’ll want to enter up towards the 6th Avenue side through the doors next to (to the right) the police precinct. I’m attaching a photo below of the doors to enter through. Once you come in, proceed down the elevator or stairs and registration will be there to greet you. Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Note that there are several open session blocks in ThisCamp - This will be scheduled the traditional BarCamp method of sign-up the day you attend. We will have a board with index cards and sharpies!

More fun with Food and Drink!

I am happy to announce some more food a drink benefits of being a BarCamper! As you all know by now, the Hard Rock Cafe has generously offered to host happy hours for us from 5:00PM to 7:00PM.

How Do You Spell Awesome? B E E R.

The Greatest Event Manager On Earth™, Ted Chapin, has gone out and done you guys a huge favor…that’s right, he’s secured you a cash bar from 12-4 at BarCamp. Now if you need a little liquid courage to network with your fellow Campers, you’ll be in good shape. So make sure to bring plenty of Hamiltons with you, and remember to always tip your bartenders.

Barking at Old Media

Tom Cheredar's picture

At the panel session “Where the Big Dogs Go,” leaders of traditional* media will discuss their future plans and aspirations to utilize technology. Representatives from The Tennessean, Comcast, Clear Channel and WKRN ABC-TV (channel deuce) will participate in the session that is moderated by Bayard Saunders.

“Hear and see what is on the horizon for the media giants - plans, announcements and demos - and how they involve the local digital community as we reinvent the world,” Bayard describes in his session proposal.

While the session intends to open up a dialog with the technology community, it lacks actual participation of “big dogs” such as Labradors, Retrievers, Great Danes or any other variety of large canine breeds.

The BarCamp Nashville Network

John Chapin's picture

What does it take to roll out a network for an estimated crowd of 600 that will only be used for one business day?

The Connection

Our venue is served by a direct fiber optic link that runs back to Dolphini Networks’ data center in Cummins Station. On the day of the event the Sommet Center’s internal network will be bypassed to allow us unfettered access to the Internet.
