Cursing - Henshaw Explains his Relationship with Google

Sitening Internet Stratagist Jon Henshaw knows how to craft a good headline. His speaker pitch, “Make Google your Bitch!” has the highest number of reads at this point in the barcamp process (see also, Un-process). Yet, despite the harsh name calling, Jon reveals he and Google have a complicated but, loving relationship…

How long have you been making Google your Bitch? (Also, how does this make Google feel?)

Jon Henshaw: “The truth of the matter is that Google has been making me their bitch much longer than I’ve been making them mine. So any chance I can love them back the way they’ve loved me, I do it! As for how Google feels about it…I think of our relationship as passive aggressive. We would get counseling, but I can’t find a good counselor who will work with a super gigantic mega corporation and a delusional search engine optimizer.”

Why did you decide to speak at Barcamp?

JH: “Because it’s the only place that would let me put the word “bitch” in my presentation title and get away with it. And I’m serious about that. It’s a fun event that’s both super casual and educational. Not too mention, it attracts the best-of-the-best of Nashville geeks and social network addicts.”

Why should people learn Search Engine Optimization?

JH: “People need to learn Search Engine Optimization (also known as SEO), because it’s like free money! If your website isn’t optimized for search engines, then you’re really losing out. If you can learn how to influence search engines, you can drive qualified leads, make money from advertising and grow your business, all without having to use pay services like Google AdWords.”

What is one other speaker topic that you are looking forward to hearing?

JH: “There’s actually a few that I’m interested in hearning. Dave Delaney is always entertaining and “The Internet, and the Future of Media” by Nicholas Young looks interesting. However, I’ll definitely try to make the “My Most Fabulous Geek Life: For Geekette’s Only!” because I have a feeling that just being in the room is going to make me a better man.”
